How it works

On the water in four steps

Pick your docks

Choose where you're leaving from and where you're headed. Every harbour dock pair has one flat price, shown before you book.

Set your party

Add your guests and, if you want longer on the water, choose an extra-time block. The fare updates as you go.

Meet your captain

Track your vessel to the dock in the app. Your captain confirms you aboard with a four-digit PIN, the same way a Telride car ride starts.

Step off, that's it

Payment is handled in the app and your receipt lands the moment you arrive. Nothing to settle on the dock.

Dock to dock

The fastest way across the harbour is across it

A road trip from Circular Quay to Manly can take the better part of an hour. By water it's a straight line — and a far better one. Telride water taxis run direct between harbour docks with no stops, no timetable and no scramble for a seat.

Because the fare is set per dock pair, traffic and tide never change what you pay. You see the price before you book, and it's the price you're charged.

Extra time on the water

Take the long way

A transfer gets you there. Extra time turns it into the reason you came. Add a block when you book — the price is shown as you choose it — and your captain takes the scenic route — past the Opera House, under the Bridge, into the coves the ferries never see.

Your captain

Every skipper is licensed. Every vessel is checked.

Telride captains hold a current boat licence and pass the same identity and background checks as our drivers. Their vessel is registered with us before it ever carries a passenger — capacity, registration, insurance and charter certification all verified by our team.

Verified vessels

Registration, insurance and passenger capacity are checked and kept current. We never exceed a vessel's legal capacity.

Background-checked captains

Identity verification and background screening, to the same standard as every Telride driver on the road.

Tracked, start to finish

Follow your vessel live in the app, share your trip with someone ashore, and reach support without leaving the screen.

Paid in the app

Your fare is agreed up front and charged to your Telride account. No cash, no card machine on a wet dock.

Questions before you board

Do I need to book ahead?

Water taxis can be booked on demand in the Telride app, the same as a car. Corporate and luxury charters are arranged by our marine team, so give us as much notice as you can — a few days is ideal for a weekend booking.

How many people can come?

Up to 12 guests, depending on the vessel. Your fare covers up to 4; additional guests are charged per head up to the boat's certified capacity. We never book a vessel beyond what it's licensed to carry.

What happens if the weather turns?

Safety decisions sit with your captain. If conditions make a crossing unsafe we'll contact you to reschedule or cancel, and you won't be charged for a trip we can't run safely.

Can I bring luggage?

Yes. Water taxis are a genuinely good way to move between the CBD and the harbour suburbs with bags. Let us know if you're travelling with more than a case each so we can send a suitable vessel.

Are children allowed on board?

Children are welcome on every vessel and must be accompanied by an adult. Tell us their ages when you book so your captain has the right lifejackets aboard.

Can you pick up from a private pontoon?

Often, yes — for charters especially. Send us the address in your enquiry and we'll confirm whether it's accessible for the vessel you want.

How do I pay, and what about a receipt?

Everything is handled in the Telride app on the account you already use for rides. Your receipt is issued the moment your trip finishes.

Ready to cast off

The harbour is the shortcut.

Book a water taxi in the Telride app, or tell our marine team about your charter and we'll come back with the boats available and a quote.
